VT: The lowdown on the top (mostly) marketing related virals every Tuesday:
1. Nike Hit The Target
Featuring Wayne Rooney, a clever viral that reinforces just how good the new Nike football boot is.
2. Ask Social Media
I don’t like posting ad’s of brands that are unknown here in Ireland. However I thought the message of this was worth showing. It’s for a mattress manufacturer called Tempur-Pedic’s a company who believe so strongly in their brand and how good it is, the ad tells viewers to go and find social media reviews of the product from other customers. That is how certain the firm is of their product, their customer service and online reputation.
3. Pepsi World Cup Song
The battle for mindshare begins. This is Pepsi’s attempt at hijacking (or ambush marketing) the 2010 World Cup from official sponsor Coca Cola. Last year I wrote about the ethical implications of ambush marketing, where the official sponsor has paid lotsa bucks to be associated with a tournament, only for a rival to try and beat them in the marketing stakes with a multitude of tactics that confuses the consumer into thinking the rival is the official sponsor. Pepsi have launched this World Cup song featuring Drogba and Torres, and performed by Akon, Keri Hilson and the Soweto Gospel Choir. Late last year Pepsi also ran a competition to give members of the public an opportunity to sing on the track. All the proceeds from the track will go to charities helping under privileged African youths. It’s a deserving cause and a clever, or cynical, move by Pepsi. Let the 2010 Ambush Marketing World Cup campaign commence….

Following last week’s Steve Jobs presentation from 1984, here’s a TV commercial that aired during the Superbowl of that year.
