This is the second Guerrilla Marketing and Ambient Advertising collection at LAB, with 57 different adverts from around the globe covering TV shows, Global Warming, Anti Litter, Film and Bathroom Advertising. From big multi national brands we all know, to small local firms that are little known outside their territory. The 57 ideas are clever, and remind us all that marketing can sometimes be fun.

1. Ikea Facebook
Ikea created a Facebook profile for the manager of their store in Malmo. Using the photo album feature, photos of Ikea showrooms were uploaded and customers invited to ‘tag’ items in the pic’s to claim them as prizes. This simple idea demonstrates the viral effect of Facebook as the Ikea promotion cropped up on profile pages and newsfeeds, driving more traffic to the profile page.

On November 14th last, on Patrick Street in Cork over 800 people took part in Irelands largest flashmob to date. This formed part of a demonstration against arts funding cuts that may form part of the next budget. Brilliant idea. More info on it here and thanks to Piaras Kelly’s blog where I first saw it.
Pretty much as described in the heading. This viral from Vodafone kicks off with two guys using a mobile app to control a toy car and ends with the technology applied to an F1 car. I would of liked to have seen more of LH racing the fullsize car.
I have said in the past that it’s a rare to see any Guerrilla Marketing campaigns of note in Ireland, while mainland Europe seems to be awash with them. Thanks to this Guerrilla Promo’s blog I found this pretty cool guerrilla campaign for the Gum Litter Task Force in Dublin. The GLT seem like a fairly substantial group comprising of various Govt departments, ECO UNESCO, Foroige and local authority representatives. Their mission is to highlight that dropping gum is litter and can result in a €150 fine. According to their site they are getting results with a 36% decrease in Gum litter reported in 2008.

The past week has seen Sesame Street celebrate its 40th year on air. However one of the Muppets most iconic characters will actually celebrate the 55th anniversary of his small screen debut. In 1955 a 19 year old Jim Henson was asked to produce a five minute show for a Washington TV station. The show was called ‘Sam and Friends’ and featured puppets in the distinctive ‘muppet’ style and a lizard like character called Kermit. The show ran for six successful years, ending eight years before Sesame Street arrived on the TV. In 1975 sketches, featuring would be Muppets, appeared on the first series of the American show Saturday Night Live. However all three major US networks (CBS, ABC and NBC) turned down the opportunity to produce a full Muppet Show series, so ITV’s Lew Grade produced the show in the UK and syndicated it world wide.
Keeping with the recent Absolut theme on this blog, I found this interesting image by Vurdlak8 that I would like to share. There are 81 Absolut Vodka bottle shapes in the image below. Can you find them? For a much larger image size click here
